McDonalds UK Happy Meal Readers App
Inspiring the next generation of scientists, artists and visionaries through the power of immersive storytelling
Parents are concerned about digital experiences consuming kids time. It was important to elevate the enjoyment of reading for kids and reimagine how books are experienced today. So, McDonald’s is using its scale for good by putting the magic back into reading for young kids and parents.
Kids who choose a book with their Happy Meal can unlock a magical experience, captivating the whole family and instilling a passion for reading. We designed the experience to imitate and elevate the natural reading styles of the target demographic. As each word is spoken out loud, the story comes to life with animations and rich sound effects, creating an immersive reading experience to excite kids and parents around the world.
My team designed the user experience, visuals, animation and software framework within the global Happy Meal app. Specifically, I oversaw the delivery and implementation of product launch, ensuring that the builds were deployed without any complications and disruptions to the core Happy Meal app functionality.
RESULTS: Without any media investment, the Happy Meal Readers App got over a quarter of a million more kids to read globally. The total time spent reading so far is 2,2017 hours, with an average of 10 minutes per session.
